Philosophy

Matthews original intent on getting into the wine business was to create a flagship Bordeaux blend. The Red Wine has always been a benchmark in Washington state and beyond. Consistently using all five Bordeaux varietals. Matthews has been producing Cabernet Sauvignon driven wines with all of the power and elegance that made the Paulliac and St. Estephe regions famous, with the added intensity of Columbia Valley fruit.

Winemaking

Fermented in small lots, blended and then aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak. This wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes

From the beginning, the 1999 harvest has proven to be one of our most successful. as ripening progressed, our top vineyards started showing tremendous potential.the consistent ripening period gave great depth and color to the finished wine with an amazing amount of complexity.

even before this wine was allowed to spend time in the new french oak barrrels, it showed good balance and richness.

From the Critics

88 Points: Wine Spectator

Generous in flavor, polished in texture, a fine blanket of tannin surrounding the tarry blackberry and pepper flavors. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2004 through 2008. 2,700 cases made. –HS
