Matthews strives to produce wines that show the incredible diversity of Washington State. From our classic Cabernet Sauvignon driven reds, to our revered Sauvignon Blanc.
As is the case in every wine region throughout the world, you are almost expected to make the varietal that makes your local region so unique. Syrah is Washington's unique varietal, putting all other regions producing this varietal second to the range of styles and quality that is produced here.
A relatively warm to hot year caused a small amount of concern. The concern was that the varietals were ripening too quickly and would not achieve developed flavor profiles. Luckily the weather cooled in September and October allowing the necessary hang time to develop optimal flavors. Should go down as one of the best vintages in recent memory judging from the wines.
This vintage of Syrah comes from Hedges Estate Vineyard as well as Klipsun on Red Mountain. It is fermented in a French Oak upright tank, and then aged in neutral French Oak barrels for 18 months.
Rich in mid-palette, common to prior releases, with a lush, lengthy finish in a style of its own in Washington.
