Matthews strives to produce wines that show the incredible diversity of Washington State. From our classic Cabernet Sauvignon driven reds, to our revered Sauvignon Blanc.
As is the case in every wine region throughout the world, you are almost expected to make the varietal that makes your local region so unique. Syrah is Washington's unique varietal, putting all other regions producing this varietal second to the range of styles and quality that is produced here.
Aged in once used French oak for 14 months before bottling unfined and unfiltered.
A dark wine with black fruit and blueberry. Firm structure and a great finish.
Wine & Spirits, October 2005
2002 Hedges Estate Vineyard Syrah
This powerful, tesing impresses with its length and hard-textured density even as it remains clean and gripping. The wine leads with briary blackberry fruit, but then it's a black hole, blending light and pulling the fruit to the bottom of the glass. Don't even think of drinking this now. Wait four years, then uncork for entrecote. 125 cases made.
