Our 2008 Syrah has just received a score of 91 points from Wine Spectator. "Dark, juicy and peppery, offering a plush mouthful of plum and boysenberry fruit lifted by lively acidity, finishing with refinement. Drink now through 2014."
Our last two vintages of the 2007 and 2006 Columbia Valley Syrah have scored 94 & 92 points, respectively fromWine Spectator, and the 2008 has also recieved high marks. For those of you who have been following Matthews for the last few years, you will remember that the 180 cases of 2007 Syrah sold out within 10 weeks of its release. We expect the 2008 Syrah to also sell out very quickly and with only 160 cases of the '08 produced, this wine will not last long.
Winemaker Aryn Morell says this about the 2008 Syrah: “Dark garnet to the rim. Blackberries and ripe currant dominate the nose, with just a hint of the traditional meaty tone of previous vintages. The 2008 vintage offers an elegant, more refined profile across the palate, exhibiting perfect balance and fine, silky texture. This wine carries plenty of weight, yet displays it with a high degree of polish. Overall, a more refined vintage with all of the forward fruit characteristics of the 2007 release.”
